Saint Joseph`s at La Salle
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — City rivals Saint Joseph’s and La Salle will meet for the second time this month in an Atlantic 10 women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Tom Gola Arena.
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks (13-6, 4-3 A-10) enter with momentum after a decisive 72-53 road win at Duquesne last Saturday. The La Salle Explorers (11-9, 3-5) are also coming off a victory, having topped Saint Bonaventure 83-74 on the same day.
The Hawks won the first meeting this season, 69-60 at home on Jan. 10. In that game, Saint Joseph’s Gabby Casey and La Salle’s Aryss Macktoon each scored 15 points.
Casey, a dynamic guard, is coming off a career performance. She posted 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the win over Duquesne, recording her first double-double of the season. Over her last seven games, she is averaging 16.1 points and 5.7 rebounds.
Macktoon, a key forward for the Explorers, is also in strong form. She scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win over Saint Bonaventure. In the last meeting with Saint Joseph’s, she led La Salle with 19 points.
Saint Joseph’s has shown a pattern of strong defensive performances in its wins, holding opponents under 60 points in nine of its 13 victories. La Salle’s offense has been inconsistent in conference play, averaging 64.4 points in its three A-10 wins but just 56.6 points in its five losses.
The Hawks have struggled recently on the road in A-10 play, with losses in their last two conference away games at Davidson and Saint Bonaventure. La Salle is 7-3 at home this season but 1-2 in league games at Tom Gola Arena.
Following this game, Saint Joseph’s will host Davidson on Feb. 1. La Salle travels to face Duquesne on Jan. 31.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
