Eastern Washington at Portland State
PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Eastern Washington Eagles aim to steady their season when they visit the struggling Portland State Vikings in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at the Stott Center.
Eastern Washington (9-9, 3-3 Big Sky) enters at .500 overall but has shown resilience in conference play, including a road win at Montana on Jan. 10. The Eagles are coming off a 57-66 home loss to Idaho State this past Saturday. Guard Ella Gallatin has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.3 points per game over her last six contests. She scored 22 points in the loss to Idaho State.
Portland State (5-12, 1-5) seeks to end a four-game skid, with its last win coming against Weber State on New Year’s Day. The Vikings fell 68-80 at Northern Arizona on Saturday. They will rely on guard Hannah Chicken, who is coming off a 16-point, 6-rebound performance in that defeat and has averaged 12.7 points over her last six games.
The Eagles have found more success recently, winning three of their last seven. The Vikings have lost 10 of their last 12, with defense being a persistent issue; they have allowed 80 or more points in five of those losses.
This game begins a critical two-game road trip for Eastern Washington, which plays at Sacramento State on Saturday. Portland State continues a homestand against Idaho on Saturday. The teams will meet again in Cheney on Feb. 21.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST Thursday at Viking Pavilion.
