Air Force at South Dakota
VERMILLION, S.D. (Interstat) — The South Dakota Coyotes used a dominant fourth-quarter surge to pull away from the Air Force Falcons, securing a 75-50 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Friday afternoon at the DakotaDome.
The Coyotes, improving to 2-0, outscored the Falcons 26-9 in the final period to turn a competitive contest into a lopsided affair. Air Force, which evened its record at 1-1, was held to just nine points in the fourth quarter as South Dakota’s offensive efficiency proved overwhelming.
Angelina Robles, a 5-foot-5 guard from San Diego, led all scorers with 22 points for South Dakota. She was instrumental throughout the game, adding a steal and a block in 35 minutes of action. Patience Williams, a 6-1 forward from Minneapolis, nearly recorded a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The game was tight through the first three quarters. South Dakota held a 34-28 lead at halftime and a 49-43 advantage heading into the final frame. The Falcons kept pace early, but their offense stalled against a tenacious Coyotes defense.
South Dakota’s offensive execution was a key differentiator. The Coyotes shot 57 percent from the field, connecting on 31 of 54 attempts. They also dominated inside, outscoring Air Force 54-28 in the paint. Defensively, South Dakota forced 14 Air Force turnovers and converted them into 17 points, while also recording 12 steals and three blocks.
Air Force struggled to find its shooting touch, making only 36 percent of its field goals. The Falcons were particularly cold from beyond the arc, hitting just 2 of 14 three-point attempts. Emily Adams, a 6-foot forward from Lebanon, Ohio, led the Falcons with nine rebounds.
Tori Schlagel of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, contributed 12 points and seven rebounds for the Coyotes, while Molly Joyce of Algona, Iowa, chipped in 11 points off the bench.
The announced attendance at the DakotaDome was 1,592. South Dakota’s next game is at home against Buena Vista on Monday. Air Force travels to face Oregon State on the same afternoon.
