Texas A&M-Commerce at Texas-Rio Grande Valley
EDINBURG, Texas (Interstat) — A pivotal Southland Conference women’s basketball matchup unfolds Saturday when the Texas-Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros host the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions at UT Pan Am Field House.
The Vaqueros (17-12) enter the contest holding a superior overall record and seeking to solidify their conference standing. They will rely heavily on the dominant play of Charlotte O’Keefe, who is coming off a historic performance. In a 77-54 road win over Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 21, O’Keefe recorded 23 points and 19 rebounds. Over her last seven games, she has averaged a double-double, showcasing her all-around impact as a scorer, rebounder and facilitator.
Texas A&M-Commerce (12-13) looks to snap a three-game skid and avenge a 60-55 home loss to the Vaqueros from Jan. 10. The Lions have struggled offensively during their losing streak, failing to reach 65 points in any of the defeats. A bright spot in their most recent game, a 71-61 loss to Incarnate Word, was guard J’Unti Franklin, who contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes off the bench. Consistency from Franklin and fellow scorers Nina Horvath and Reza Po will be critical for the Lions’ chances.
The Vaqueros have been strong at home this season, including a 75-53 victory over Lamar on Feb. 12. Texas A&M-Commerce, however, has shown resilience on the road, notably securing a narrow 65-64 win at Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 5.
Saturday’s result will carry significant weight for both teams as the regular season winds down, impacting seeding for the upcoming Southland Conference tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for Feb. 28, 2026, in Edinburg.
