Jacksonville at Florida Gulf Coast

Preview: Jacksonville Dolphins at Florida Gulf Coast Eagles

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Jacksonville women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak against a Florida Gulf Coast squad seeking consistency in an ASUN Conference matchup Saturday at Alico Arena.

The Dolphins (14-7 overall) enter on a three-game win streak, most recently routing West Georgia 82-61 on Thursday. Jacksonville has won five of its last six, with the only loss in that span a competitive 83-79 defeat to North Alabama.

Guard Tatum Brown has been a catalyst, scoring 16 points in the win over West Georgia. She averages 16 points over her last two games and will be a primary focus for the Eagles’ defense.

Florida Gulf Coast (10-11) looks to rebound from a 55-60 road loss at North Alabama last Saturday. The Eagles have alternated wins and losses over their past six contests. Guard Sinai Douglas leads the team, coming off a 16-point, 4-assist performance in the loss to North Alabama. She has scored in double figures in four of her last five games.

The Eagles have found success at home this season, including conference wins over Central Arkansas and North Alabama in early January. Protecting Alico Arena will be key against a Jacksonville offense that has averaged 75.3 points during its current win streak.

Jacksonville won the season’s first meeting 91-40 over Queens (N.C.) on Jan. 8, while Florida Gulf Coast defeated Queens 65-45 on Jan. 17. This will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the schools, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 21 in Jacksonville.

Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST and will be a critical conference matchup as both teams navigate the second half of the ASUN schedule.
