Fresno State Dominates San Jose State in Mountain West Rout

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Fresno State women’s basketball team used a dominant first half to cruise to a 79-50 victory over San Jose State in a Mountain West Conference game Wednesday night at the Event Center.

The Bulldogs seized control from the opening tip, building a 43-15 lead by halftime. The Spartans managed just four points in the second quarter, a stretch that effectively decided the contest. Fresno State’s defense was the catalyst, forcing 18 San Jose State turnovers and converting them into 27 points. The Bulldogs also held San Jose State to 29.6% shooting from the field for the game.

Emilia Long led all scorers with 19 points for Fresno State, adding four assists. She was one of five Bulldogs to reach double figures. Ava Marr scored 13 points, while Danae Powell and Morelia Chavez each added 11. Hedda Koehne contributed 10 points off the bench.

For San Jose State, Maya Anderson scored 14 points and Amira Brown added 10. The Spartans struggled mightily on offense, posting an offensive rating of just 65.0 points per 100 possessions. They were also hampered by a lack of ball movement, registering only two assists as a team.

The most important sequence of the game occurred in the second quarter, where Fresno State’s defensive pressure completely stifled the San Jose State offense. The Spartans committed seven turnovers in the period and made only one field goal—a 3-pointer by Amelie Sitterud with 8:42 remaining. During that quarter, Fresno State extended a 22-11 lead after one period into a 28-point halftime advantage, with key plays including a steal and layup by Ava Marr and a pair of 3-pointers from Marr and Morelia Chavez that fueled a 21-4 run.

Fresno State improved to 10-13 overall and evened its conference record. San Jose State fell to 3-20.

The Bulldogs shot 41.1% from the field and made 10 of 25 from 3-point range. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Spartans 48-35, including an 11-5 edge on the offensive boards.

Fresno State hosts Nevada on Saturday. San Jose State is scheduled to host San Diego State, also on Saturday.
