Saint Joseph`s at Rhode Island

Preview: Saint Joseph’s Hawks at Rhode Island Rams

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (Interstat) — A surging Rhode Island squad looks to protect its home court and solidify its position atop the Atlantic 10 when it hosts a dangerous Saint Joseph’s team on Wednesday night at the Ryan Center.

The Rams (19-2, 8-0 A-10) enter as one of the conference’s hottest teams, riding a nine-game winning streak. Their last loss came on Dec. 3, 2025 — a 59-52 victory over these same Hawks in Philadelphia. Rhode Island’s defense has been stifling, holding opponents to an average of just 52.2 points during their current run.

Saint Joseph’s (15-6, 5-3), however, presents a significant challenge, having won three of its last four. The Hawks are led by dynamic guard Gabby Casey, who is averaging 17.4 points over her last seven games. She is coming off a 22-point, 5-rebound performance in a 59-51 win over Davidson on Sunday and recorded a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double at Duquesne on Jan. 24.

Rhode Island counters with its own backcourt standout in Ines Debroise. The guard has been a model of consistency, scoring in double figures in four of her last seven contests, including a 16-point outing at George Washington on Jan. 7. Her playmaking and perimeter defense will be key against Casey.

The Hawks have shown they can win on the road, with victories at La Salle and Duquesne this month, but the Ryan Center has been a fortress for the Rams. Rhode Island is 10-0 at home this season.

This matchup pits Rhode Island’s elite defense against a Saint Joseph’s offense that can be explosive, evidenced by a 108-point outing against Arcadia in December. The Hawks will need similar efficiency to hand the Rams their first conference loss.

Wednesday’s contest is a critical mid-season test for both teams’ championship aspirations. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
