Davidson at Saint Bonaventure
KNAPP CREEK, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Atlantic 10 women’s basketball teams looking to halt recent slides will meet Wednesday when the Davidson Wildcats visit the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies at the Reilly Center.
Davidson (14-9, 4-6 A-10) enters having lost three of its last four, including a 51-59 defeat at Saint Joseph’s on Sunday. The Bonnies (12-11, 3-7) have dropped five of their last six, most recently a 52-60 loss at Loyola Chicago on Jan. 31.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top individual talents. Davidson will lean on forward Charlise Dunn, who is coming off a dominant 21-point, 11-rebound performance in the loss to Saint Joseph’s. Over her last eight games, Dunn is averaging 14.1 points and 4.6 rebounds, serving as the focal point of the Wildcats’ offense.
Saint Bonaventure counters with guard Laycee Drake, a dynamic scorer and distributor. Drake poured in 29 points in a narrow loss at Dayton on Jan. 28 and followed that with a 12-point, 7-assist effort against Loyola Chicago. Her ability to create for herself and others will be critical for a Bonnies offense that has struggled at times, scoring 60 or fewer points in four of their last six contests.
Defensively, Davidson will aim to control the paint, where they outrebounded Saint Joseph’s 46-35 last time out. Saint Bonaventure must improve its ball security after committing 18 turnovers in the loss to Loyola Chicago.
Historically, the home court has been significant in this series. Both teams will view this as a pivotal opportunity to gain momentum ahead of the final stretch of the conference schedule. For Saint Bonaventure, it’s a chance to climb back to .500 overall. For Davidson, it’s an opportunity to solidify its position in the middle of the A-10 standings and reverse its road fortunes, having gone 1-3 in its last four away games.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
