LSU at Texas A&M

Preview: LSU Tigers at Texas A&M Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — The surging LSU women’s basketball team aims to continue its dominant run in Southeastern Conference play when it visits a struggling Texas A&M squad at Reed Arena on Thursday night.

The Tigers (16-2, 3-1 SEC) enter on a three-game winning streak, most recently routing Oklahoma 91-72 on Sunday behind a standout performance from Flau’Jae Johnson. The junior guard recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, adding three assists and three blocks. Over her last three games, Johnson is averaging 19.3 points, showcasing the form that makes her LSU’s focal point.

LSU’s offense, which averages over 88 points per game, features multiple threats. Guard Jada Richard added 21 points against Oklahoma, and MiLaysia Fulwiley contributed 12 points off the bench. The Tigers’ two losses this season were by a combined six points.

Texas A&M (8-6, 1-3) seeks to halt a two-game skid and rebound from a lopsided 80-35 loss at rival Texas. The Aggies have struggled offensively in SEC play, failing to reach 60 points in three of four conference games. Guard Janae Kent, who scored 16 points in the loss to Texas, will be a key figure for the Aggies’ attack. She averaged 12.5 points in two games last week but was held to just three points in a 91-51 loss to Vanderbilt on Jan. 11.

Defense will be the paramount challenge for the Aggies, who must find a way to slow an LSU team that has scored 80 or more points in 11 games this season. Texas A&M has shown resilience at home, including a 74-66 SEC road win at Florida on Jan. 8, but faces its toughest conference test to date.

Historically, LSU has won the last four meetings. The Tigers continue a rigorous SEC schedule next week, hosting Florida on Monday. Texas A&M hits the road for its next contest, playing at Missouri on Sunday.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST Thursday at Reed Arena.
