LSU Women Dominate Texas A&M in SEC Road Victory
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — In a display of overwhelming firepower and suffocating defense, the LSU women’s basketball team delivered a commanding 98-54 victory over Texas A&M on Thursday night at Reed Arena. The Tigers, improving to 17-2 overall and remaining unbeaten in Southeastern Conference play, used a dominant 37-point third quarter to turn a competitive first half into a decisive rout before a crowd of 3,771.
The game’s pivotal sequence arrived early in the third period, transforming what had been a 41-22 LSU halftime lead into an insurmountable chasm. Leading 48-30 with just over six minutes remaining in the quarter, LSU unleashed a devastating 21-2 run over the next four minutes, effectively ending the contest. The surge was fueled by a combination of relentless transition offense, generated by active hands on defense, and efficient interior scoring.
MiLaysia Fulwiley, the dynamic 5-foot-10 guard from Columbia, South Carolina, was the catalyst. She scored nine of her game-high 23 points during the run, including a driving layup and a free throw, while also contributing a steal and an assist. Her backcourt partner, Mikaylah Williams, orchestrated the offense with precision, dishing out nine assists, many during the critical stretch. Inside, Grace Knox of Las Vegas provided a steady scoring presence, finishing with 19 points, and 6-foot-5 post Kate Koval from Kyiv, Ukraine, added 15 points and two blocks.
Texas A&M, which fell to 8-7, struggled to find consistent offense against LSU’s pressure. The Aggies were led by Fatmata Janneh of London, England, with 14 points, and point guard Ny’Ceara Pryor of Baltimore, who scored 13 points and handed out six assists. Jordan Webster of Dallas added eight points for the home team.
The first half set the stage for the explosion to come. LSU established control early, leading 21-12 after the first quarter and extending the margin to 19 by the break. The Tigers’ defense forced 12 first-half turnovers, which they converted into easy scoring opportunities. While the Aggies showed brief flashes, shooting struggles and ball-handling issues prevented them from mounting a sustained challenge.
The third-quarter onslaught removed all doubt. LSU shot a blistering percentage from the field during the period, scoring at will in the paint and from the perimeter. The Tigers’ depth was also on full display, with Amiya Joyner of Farmville, North Carolina, scoring 11 points and Jada Richard of Opelousas, Louisiana, adding 11 more off the bench.
With the game decided, both teams emptied their benches for much of the fourth quarter. LSU’s reserves maintained the intensity, ensuring the final margin reflected the night’s one-sided nature. The Tigers’ 98 points were the most allowed by Texas A&M this season.
The victory extends LSU’s winning streak and solidifies its position atop the SEC standings. The Tigers, who entered the game as heavy favorites according to national metrics and betting lines, covered the pregame spread with ease. The combined score of 152 points surpassed the over/under line.
LSU will look to continue its conference momentum when it hosts Florida on Monday. Texas A&M, seeking to regroup, travels to face Missouri on Sunday.
