Saint Louis at Fordham
Preview: Saint Louis Billikens at Fordham Rams
NEW YORK (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the tightly packed Atlantic 10 Conference will meet Wednesday when the Saint Louis Billikens visit the Fordham Rams at Rose Hill Gym.
Both sides enter the midweek clash at .500 overall. Saint Louis is 10-10, while Fordham is 9-9. The Billikens are coming off a 62-58 home victory over Dayton on Sunday, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Fordham also ended a skid its last time out, defeating Saint Bonaventure 66-53 to halt a five-game slide.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top interior players. Saint Louis is led by forward Alyssa Koerkenmeier, who is playing at an all-conference level. She posted a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks in the win over Dayton. Over her last seven games, she has four double-doubles and is averaging 14.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per contest.
Fordham will counter with forward Emma Wilson-Saltos, who is coming off a dominant 16-point, 16-rebound performance against the Bonnies. Her consistency will be key for the Rams, who have struggled offensively during their recent conference play.
Supporting cast production will be critical. For Saint Louis, guards Jahda Denis (17 points) and Zya Nugent (18 points) provided vital scoring alongside Koerkenmeier against Dayton. Fordham’ backcourt of Carryn Easley and Lakresha Edwards combined for 26 points and 11 assists in the win over Saint Bonaventure.
Historically, Fordham holds the advantage at Rose Hill Gym, but the Billikens’ recent win and the presence of a difference-maker like Koerkenmeier make this a pivotal game for both teams’ conference positioning. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
