Oklahoma State at Kansas
Preview: Oklahoma State Cowgirls at Kansas Jayhawks
LAWRENCE, Kan. (Interstat) — A surging Oklahoma State squad visits a Kansas team seeking stability in a key Big 12 Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
The Cowgirls (14-4, 3-2 Big 12) enter on a high note after a 63-56 home victory over Colorado on Sunday. Kansas (11-6, 1-4), meanwhile, looks to halt a three-game conference skid, most recently a 79-64 loss at Baylor.
Oklahoma State’s success is fueled by standout guard Stailee Heard, who is coming off a dominant 21-point, 8-rebound performance against the Buffaloes. Over her last five games, Heard has averaged 16.0 points, showcasing her ability to carry the offensive load. Support comes from Achol Akot and Amari Whiting, who combined for 12 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Colorado.
The Jayhawks will counter with their own offensive catalyst in guard Jaliya Davis. She has been a bright spot during the team’s recent struggles, scoring 20 or more points in four consecutive games, including a 21-point effort at Baylor. Forward Lilly Meister provides a post presence, recording a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in the same contest.
While Oklahoma State boasts the superior record, the Cowgirls are just 1-2 in true road games this season. Kansas has faced a tough early conference slate, with its lone Big 12 win coming on the road at UCF on Jan. 4.
History and the schedule add urgency for the Jayhawks. A home loss would drop them to 1-5 in league play before embarking on a difficult two-game road trip to Arizona State and Arizona. Oklahoma State aims to build momentum before hosting Iowa State on Sunday.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday in a series Kansas leads 57-28 all-time. The game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
