LOGAN, Utah (Interstat) — The Utah women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance on the road Friday night, overwhelming in-state foe Utah State 90-53 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
The Utes seized control from the opening tip, starting the game on a 15-0 run and outscoring the Aggies 25-8 in the first quarter. Utah State found a brief rhythm in the second quarter, putting up 23 points, but the Utes responded after halftime by holding the home team to just six points in the third period to extinguish any hope of a comeback. Utah closed the game emphatically, pouring in 31 points in the final quarter.
Lani White led a balanced and efficient Utah attack, scoring a team-high 19 points and grabbing five rebounds. Avery Hjelmstad provided a significant spark off the bench, contributing 16 points, while Brooke Walker recorded a well-rounded line of 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Point guard LA Sneed orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out nine assists.
The Utes’ offensive execution was clinical. They shot 57.8% from the field and an impressive 50% from beyond the arc, making 12 of 24 three-point attempts. Their offensive rating of 117.9 on 76 possessions underscored their scoring efficiency. Defensively, Utah was equally dominant, holding the Aggies to 32.8% shooting from the floor and a 20.8% clip from three-point range. Utah State managed an offensive rating of just 69.1.
Utah also dominated inside, outscoring the Aggies 48-26 in the paint, and capitalized on mistakes, scoring 23 points off turnovers.
