Late Free Throws Lift TCU Over Kansas in Big 12 Thriller
FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — Clara Bielefeld made a free throw with five seconds remaining Thursday night to lift Texas Christian to a 79-77 victory over Kansas in a Big 12 women’s basketball game at Dickies Arena.
The Lady Frogs, who improved to 20-2, survived a frantic finish after the Jayhawks’ S’Mya Nichols hit a 3-pointer with one second left to tie the game at 77. Bielefeld was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play and made the first of two free throws for the decisive margin. TCU’s Olivia Miles scored 20 points and Jaliya Davis led Kansas with 29.
The Jayhawks, who fell to 13-9, erased a 13-point first-quarter deficit but could not complete the comeback. TCU’s 10 3-pointers proved critical in the narrow win before a crowd of 2,613.
