Kansas at Texas Christian

FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Texas Christian women’s basketball team, ranked among the nation’s elite, will host a Kansas squad seeking a signature road win when the Big 12 rivals meet Thursday night at Dickies Arena.

The Lady Frogs (19-2, 8-1 Big 12) have won seven of their last eight games, their only stumble a narrow 71-69 road loss at then-Ohio State on Jan. 19. Their stifling defense has held opponents to 50 points or fewer in three of their last five contests, including a 67-50 win at UCF last Saturday. All-American candidate Olivia Miles powers TCU, averaging a near triple-double in recent play. Over her last eight games, the guard is averaging 19.5 points, 7.4 assists and 6.1 rebounds.

Kansas (13-8, 4-5) arrives with momentum after an 83-61 rout of Kansas State last Sunday snapped a three-game skid. The Jayhawks’ success hinges largely on the offensive output of forward Jaliya Davis, who has scored 20 or more points in seven consecutive games. Davis is averaging 22.3 points and 5.1 rebounds over that stretch, including a 30-point performance against Oklahoma State on Jan. 14.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. TCU, firmly in the conference title chase, boasts a defense allowing just 55.8 points per game. Kansas, hovering around .500 in league play, has shown volatility, following a three-game January losing streak with its decisive win over the Wildcats.

Historically, TCU has dominated the series, winning the last six meetings. In their first matchup this season on Dec. 20 in Fort Worth, the Lady Frogs secured a 77-55 victory. Kansas last defeated TCU on Feb. 24, 2021.

For the Jayhawks, containing Miles while finding consistent secondary scoring beyond Davis will be critical. For the Lady Frogs, maintaining their defensive intensity to slow Davis and capitalize on home-court advantage is the path to continuing their standout season.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. TCU travels to Texas Tech on Sunday, while Kansas will host Colorado on Feb. 1.
