San Diego State at Colorado State
Preview: San Diego State Aztecs at Colorado State Rams
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Interstat) — A pivotal Mountain West women’s basketball showdown is set for Wednesday afternoon at Moby Arena as the Colorado State Rams host the San Diego State Aztecs.
Both teams enter with strong records and momentum. The visiting Aztecs (15-3, 7-0 MW) are riding an 11-game winning streak, most recently a dominant 94-66 victory over San Jose State on Saturday. The Rams (17-4, 6-2) have won four of their last five, including a 68-55 road win at Fresno State.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top players. San Diego State is led by dynamic guard Nala Williams, who is coming off a 20-point, 10-assist performance against San Jose State. Over her last eight games, Williams is averaging 11.4 points and 5.6 assists, serving as the catalyst for the Aztecs’ high-scoring offense.
For Colorado State, forward Madelyn Bragg provides a consistent interior presence. She scored 18 points in the win over Fresno State and has averaged 10.6 points over her last eight contests. Her defensive impact, with multiple blocks in five of those games, will be crucial against San Diego State’s penetration.
The Rams have been strong at home this season, but face a stern test against an Aztec team that has proven capable on the road, with key victories at UNLV, Utah State and Kansas State. San Diego State’s streak includes several tight conference wins, demonstrating their ability in close games.
Colorado State’s two conference losses came at home to New Mexico and on the road at Boise State, both by single digits. Protecting home court will be a priority to keep pace in the league standings.
This contest is the first of a regular-season series between the teams, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 11 in San Diego.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST Wednesday.
