Richmond at Saint Bonaventure
Preview: Richmond Spiders at Saint Bonaventure Bonnies
KNAPP CREEK, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two of the Atlantic 10’s top teams will meet Saturday when the Richmond Spiders visit the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies in a key early conference women’s basketball matchup.
The game is scheduled for Jan. 3, 2026, at the Reilly Center.
Richmond (11-4) enters looking to rebound from a 73-61 road loss at Rhode Island on Tuesday, which snapped a four-game winning streak. The Spiders’ offense runs through standout forward Maggie Doogan, who scored 26 points in that defeat. Doogan has been dominant, averaging 24.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists over her last seven games, including a 30-point, 5-rebound effort in a win at Penn State on Dec. 21.
Saint Bonaventure (10-4) is coming off a narrow 54-53 home victory over George Washington on Wednesday. Guard Laycee Drake led the Bonnies with 21 points and six rebounds in that contest. She has been a consistent scorer, averaging 17.5 points over her last four games, including a 21-point, 7-rebound performance in a win at Le Moyne on Dec. 6.
The matchup features two of the league’s most efficient offenses. Richmond has scored 70 or more points in eight of its 11 wins, while Saint Bonaventure has held opponents under 60 points in six of its ten victories, suggesting a clash of styles.
Defensively, the Bonnies will need to find an answer for Doogan, whose versatility as a scorer and facilitator powers the Spiders. Richmond, meanwhile, must contain Drake and counter Saint Bonaventure’s physical defense, which has proven effective in close games.
This contest marks the start of a critical stretch for both teams as they dive into the heart of the Atlantic 10 schedule. The rematch is set for Feb. 11 in Richmond.
Saturday’s winner will gain an early advantage in the conference standings and momentum heading into the new year.
