TCU Lady Frogs Put Perfect Record on the Line at BYU

PROVO, Utah (Interstat) — A marquee early-season Big 12 women’s basketball showdown awaits on New Year’s Eve, as the undefeated and fourth-ranked TCU Lady Frogs visit the ninth-ranked BYU Cougars at the Marriott Center on Wednesday.

TCU (13-0, 1-0 Big 12) is one of just four remaining unbeaten teams in Division I, riding a wave of dominant victories. Their average margin of victory is 34.2 points, and they are coming off a 77-55 conference win over Kansas State on Dec. 20. The Lady Frogs’ offense, averaging 86.2 points per game, is fueled by star guard Olivia Miles. The senior is in exceptional form, posting a triple-double (15 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists) against UTEP on Dec. 6 and averaging 19.8 points and 8.2 assists over her last five games. She scored 29 points with eight rebounds in the win over Kansas State.

BYU (13-1, 1-0) presents the toughest test to date for TCU. The Cougars’ only loss came on a neutral court to Vanderbilt (84-71) on Nov. 29, and they have since won seven straight, including a 71-50 road victory at UCF to open conference play. BYU boasts a stout defense, allowing just 55.6 points per game at home. Guard Delaney Gibb, who scored 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench against UCF, provides a key spark for a balanced Cougars attack that features five players averaging between 8 and 12 points per game.

The matchup pits TCU’s high-octane offense against BYU’s disciplined defense. The Lady Frogs have scored 80 or more points in nine of their 13 games, while the Cougars have held 10 of 14 opponents under 60 points. TCU’s frontcourt, led by Clara Silva (14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks vs. Kansas State) and Marta Suárez (20 points, 8 rebounds), will be crucial against a physical BYU interior.

This game marks the first meeting between the programs as Big 12 conference foes. A win would give TCU a significant early leg up in the conference race and bolster its resume, while BYU aims to defend its home court and hand the Lady Frogs their first loss, announcing its own championship intentions.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Wednesday.
