Quinnipiac Dominates Saint Peter’s in MAAC Women’s Basketball Rout

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Interstat) — The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team delivered a defensive masterclass on Monday afternoon, holding Saint Peter’s to a historically low offensive output in a lopsided 67-27 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory at Yanitelli Center.

The Bobcats improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the MAAC, while the Peacocks fell to 3-9 and 1-1.

The most important part of the game was the immediate and overwhelming defensive pressure applied by Quinnipiac from the opening tip, which completely suffocated the Saint Peter’s offense and decided the contest within the first quarter. The Bobcats opened the game on a 14-0 run, forcing four turnovers and two shot-clock violations from the Peacocks before the home team managed its first point on a free throw with 7:18 remaining in the period. By the time Saint Peter’s made its first field goal, a Jayshlynn Vega jump shot at the 6:06 mark, Quinnipiac already led 14-1. The tone of a defensive rout was irrevocably set.

Quinnipiac’s defense never relented. Saint Peter’s finished the game shooting just 20% from the field, making only 11 of 55 attempts. The Peacocks were anemic from three-point range, connecting on just 2 of 19. Their 27 points marked the lowest scoring total by a Quinnipiac opponent in the program’s Division I history and represented an offensive rating of just 43.7 points per 100 possessions.

The Bobcats, by contrast, operated with efficiency at a 106.1 offensive rating. They shot 43% from the field and hit 10 three-pointers. A balanced scoring attack was led by Ella O’Donnell, who scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 23 minutes. Karson Martin added 10 points. The Ryan sisters, Ella and Sydney, each contributed nine points and combined for 15 rebounds.

For Saint Peter’s, the struggles were comprehensive. Vega led the Peacocks with 10 points but needed 33 minutes and 13 shot attempts to get there. De’Naya Rippey added eight points and six rebounds. The team’s 27 points were the fewest scored in a game this season, continuing a pattern of offensive difficulties that has seen them held under 40 points four other times.

Quinnipiac’s dominance extended across the stat sheet. They outrebounded Saint Peter’s 49-35, including an 11-8 edge on the offensive glass, which led to a 13-4 advantage in second-chance points. The Bobcats also forced 12 turnovers while committing an equal number, but converted those takeaways into a 15-2 margin in points off turnovers.

The victory extended Quinnipiac’s winning streak to three games following conference wins over Manhattan and Marist. Saint Peter’s saw its two-game MAAC win streak snapped after victories over Canisius and Niagara.

The Bobcats continue MAAC play at home against Iona on Thursday. Saint Peter’s will host Manhattan on the same night.
