KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Miami Hurricanes used a dominant second-quarter surge to overcome a slow start and remain undefeated, holding off the Davidson Wildcats 66-58 in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Thursday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Davidson controlled the opening period, building a 17-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats’ early success was fueled by a strong defensive effort and efficient scoring inside.

The game turned decisively in the second quarter. Miami’s offense ignited, outscoring Davidson 22-14 in the period to take a 32-31 lead into halftime. The Hurricanes’ run was powered by their backcourt, which consistently broke down the Wildcats’ defense.

Miami extended its lead in the third quarter, outscoring Davidson 16-14 to carry a 48-45 advantage into the final frame. The Hurricanes then sealed the victory with an 18-point fourth quarter, consistently answering any attempt by Davidson to mount a comeback.

The Hurricanes’ interior presence was anchored by Ra Shaya Kyle, who scored 17 points and recorded two blocks. Vittoria Blasigh also reached double figures for Miami, contributing 11 points, including three shots from beyond the arc.

Davidson was led by Charlise Dunn, who scored 14 points. Ines Garcia Monje added 10 points for the Wildcats, while Edina Strausz provided a spark off the bench with seven points.

Both teams struggled from three-point range, with Miami making 3 of 17 and Davidson hitting 4 of 16.

A significant disparity occurred at the free-throw line, where Davidson left points on the board, converting only 8 of 17 attempts. Miami was more reliable, making 9 of 14 from the stripe.

Davidson won the battle on the offensive glass, grabbing 11 rebounds to Miami’s seven, but could not overcome its shooting woes. The Wildcats also committed two fewer turnovers, with 10 compared to Miami’s 12.
