Colorado Women Dominate Portland State in Nonconference Matchup

BOULDER, Colo. (Interstat) — The Colorado Buffaloes used a dominant defensive performance to overwhelm the Portland State Vikings, cruising to a 77-45 victory in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at a subdued Coors Events Center.

From the opening tip, Colorado’s pressure was the story of the game. The Buffaloes forced Portland State into 27 turnovers, converting those mistakes into 26 points. Colorado also tallied 18 steals, repeatedly disrupting the Vikings’ offensive flow and creating easy transition opportunities. The Buffaloes’ defense held Portland State to just 16 made field goals on 44 attempts and an offensive rating of 62.8 points per 100 possessions.

The game was competitive for the first quarter, with Colorado holding a narrow 15-11 lead. The Buffaloes began to pull away in the second period, outscoring the Vikings 22-12 to take a 37-23 advantage into halftime. The onslaught continued after the break, as Colorado matched its second-quarter output with another 22 points in the third to extend the lead to 59-36, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Colorado’s offensive effort was balanced and efficient, with the team assisting on 18 of its 30 made baskets. The Buffaloes also controlled the interior, outscoring Portland State 34-16 in the paint and grabbing 14 offensive rebounds that led to 13 second-chance points.

Logyn Greer led all scorers for Colorado, pouring in 19 points in just 21 minutes of action. The 6-foot-4 sophomore from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, also added six rebounds and a block. Zyanna Walker facilitated the offense masterfully, dishing out six assists to go along with eight points and four rebounds. Anaëlle Dutat was a force on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end, while also contributing six points and two assists.

For Portland State, Kyleigh Brown provided a bright spot, leading the Vikings with 16 points. Hannah Chicken added 11 points and four rebounds in the losing effort. The Vikings’ ball-handling struggles were epitomized by their backcourt, as primary guards Ajae Yoakum and Laynee Torres-Kahapea combined for 12 of the team’s 27 turnovers.

With the win, Colorado improves its season record to 2-1. The Buffaloes will look to build on this performance when they host Boise State on Tuesday. Portland State falls to 1-2 and will continue its road trip at Air Force, also on Tuesday. An announced crowd of 2,540 watched the contest.
