Manhattan at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Golden Gophers will look to build on a dominant season-opening victory when they host the Manhattan Lady Jaspers in a nonconference women’s basketball game Friday at Williams Arena.

Minnesota (1-0) opened its season with a 91-47 rout of North Dakota on Tuesday. Makena Christian led the way with 23 points, while Sophie Hart and Finau Tonga each scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, with both players pulling down seven rebounds.

The Lady Jaspers (0-1) are seeking their first win after falling 56-38 to Rhode Island on Monday. Brianna Davis was a bright spot for Manhattan, scoring 18 points in the loss. Agar Farres Garcia anchored the defense, grabbing 15 rebounds.

The game marks the start of a challenging early-season stretch for the Golden Gophers, who will host Marquette on Nov. 11 before a road test at Kansas on Nov. 19. For Manhattan, the matchup is the second of a four-game road trip to open the season, with contests at Air Force, Fordham and Navy to follow.
