UCLA at Michigan

Preview: UCLA Bruins at Michigan Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — A marquee nonconference clash with national championship implications is set for Sunday when the UCLA Bruins visit the Michigan Wolverines at Crisler Center.

The matchup features two of the nation’s premier teams, with UCLA (21-1) riding a 14-game winning streak and Michigan (20-3) having won 10 of its last 11. The game is organized by the Big Ten as part of its conference challenge series.

UCLA, whose only loss came in December, has dominated its schedule, winning its last five games by an average of 31.2 points. In their most recent outing, an 86-46 rout of Rutgers on Wednesday, the Bruins showcased their balanced attack. While star guard Charlisse Leger-Walker contributed 11 points and seven assists in 24 minutes, Kiki Rice led the team with 17 points.

Leger-Walker remains a focal point, averaging 10.6 points and 5.1 assists per game. Her versatility was on full display in a Jan. 18 win over Maryland, where she nearly recorded a triple-double with 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Michigan counters with its own potent offense, averaging 82.5 points per game. The Wolverines are led by standout guard Olivia Olson, who is averaging 21.2 points over her last six contests. She scored 21 points with six assists in Wednesday’s 88-76 victory over Nebraska, following a 23-point performance in an overtime win at Michigan State.

The Wolverines’ three losses have been by a combined 15 points, including a narrow 72-69 home defeat to Vanderbilt on Jan. 19. They boast a key resume-building win over then-Southern California, 73-67, on Jan. 25, where Olson scored 24 points.

This contest represents a final major nonconference test for both powerhouses before the stretch run of their respective league schedules. UCLA’s top-ranked defense, allowing just 54.7 points per game, will be challenged by Michigan’s high-scoring attack in what promises to be a postseason atmosphere in Ann Arbor.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026.
