Alcorn State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff

SOUTHWESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PREVIEW

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Interstat) — A pair of SWAC teams trending in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Alcorn State Lady Braves visit the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Golden Lions at the HPER Complex.

Alcorn State (11-9 overall) enters on a seven-game winning streak, its latest a 75-72 road victory at Mississippi Valley State on Thursday. The Lady Braves have not lost since a 76-34 defeat at Alabama A&M on Jan. 10, a stretch that has solidified their position in the conference.

The Lady Golden Lions (8-12) snapped a two-game skid with a 74-68 home win over Jackson State on Thursday. UAPB has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses for much of the past month.

A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Alcorn State’s Kiarra Henderson has been instrumental during the win streak, averaging 10.1 points, 6.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds over the last seven contests. She nearly posted a triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in a win at Florida A&M on Jan. 24.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff counters with Jasmine Davis, who scored 12 points with four assists in the win over Jackson State. Davis is capable of explosive scoring, having dropped 21 points in a loss at Texas Southern on Jan. 10.

The Lady Braves have dominated recent meetings, winning the last five matchups against UAPB. In their first meeting this season, scheduled for March 5 in Lorman, Mississippi, Alcorn State will look to complete a regular-season sweep.

For UAPB, protecting home court is critical as it aims to climb the SWAC standings. Indiya Bowen, who led the team with 18 points on Thursday, provides a secondary scoring option alongside Davis.

Alcorn State’s surge has been built on defense, holding opponents to an average of 52.7 points during its seven-game streak. Containing Davis and Bowen will be its primary objective to extend the run.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, in Pine Bluff.
