Austin Peay at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — A surging Eastern Kentucky squad will look to continue its dominant run when it hosts an Austin Peay team seeking to steady itself in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

The Lady Colonels (20-4) enter on a 10-game winning streak, last falling on Dec. 30. They most recently grinded out a 61-55 road victory at Lipscomb on Wednesday. Eastern Kentucky has been formidable at home, boasting a perfect 10-0 record in Richmond this season.

Austin Peay (13-8), meanwhile, aims to snap a three-game skid. The Governors fell 50-55 at North Alabama on Wednesday, their third consecutive loss by six points or fewer. The team’s performance has been inconsistent in conference play, alternating wins and losses over their last eight games.

A key matchup will feature Eastern Kentucky’s dynamic guard Kenleigh Woods against Austin Peay’s Jade Rucker. Woods has been a catalyst for the Lady Colonels, averaging 13.2 points over the last eight games. She erupted for 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists in a win over North Florida on Jan. 24.

Rucker’s role for the Governors has fluctuated. After a 16-point effort in a win at Bellarmine on Jan. 15, her minutes and production have varied. She led Austin Peay with 12 points in 24 minutes off the bench in the midweek loss to North Alabama, highlighting her potential as an offensive spark.

Eastern Kentucky won the first meeting this season, 80-78, in Clarksville on Jan. 5. The rematch promises heightened intensity as Austin Peay seeks to split the season series and improve its standing.

The Lady Colonels’ balanced attack and staunch home-court advantage make them the favorite. Austin Peay’s challenge will be to contain Woods and find consistent scoring beyond Rucker to end its recent streak of narrow defeats.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon. Eastern Kentucky visits Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 19, while Austin Peay hosts Queens (N.C.) on Feb. 12.
