Seton Hall at Georgetown
Preview: Seton Hall Pirates at Georgetown Hoyas
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A pivotal Big East women’s basketball matchup awaits Thursday afternoon at Capital One Arena as the surging Georgetown Hoyas host the Seton Hall Pirates, who seek to rebound from a lopsided defeat and complete a season sweep.
The game, scheduled for Jan. 29, 2026, features two teams heading in opposite directions entering the contest. Seton Hall (14-6, 5-4 Big East) arrives reeling from a 92-52 home loss to Connecticut last Saturday. Meanwhile, Georgetown (12-8, 5-4) has won three of its last four, including a convincing 65-52 road victory at Xavier.
The Pirates will lean on standout forward Mariana Valenzuela, who has been a consistent force. She scored 18 points with eight rebounds in the loss to UConn and poured in 26 points in a win over Marquette on Jan. 14. Valenzuela was instrumental in the first meeting this season, a dominant 81-36 Seton Hall win on Dec. 31, though she was held to just three points in that rout.
For the Hoyas, momentum rests with Brianna Scott, who is coming off a career-best performance. Scott dominated Xavier with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Her resurgence will be key for a Georgetown squad that was held to a season-low 36 points in the December loss at Seton Hall.
The rematch presents a starkly different dynamic. Georgetown’s defense has tightened, allowing an average of just 52.3 points during its recent 3-1 stretch. Seton Hall, which had won four straight before the UConn game, must rediscover its offensive rhythm, which produced over 80 points in the previous meeting.
A Georgetown win would forge a tie in the conference standings and mark a significant turnaround from their December humiliation. A Seton Hall victory would solidify its position in the upper tier of the Big East and demonstrate resilience after a tough loss.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at Capital One Arena.
