Eastern Kentucky at West Georgia

Preview: Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels at West Georgia Wolves

CARROLLTON, Ga. (Interstat) — A surging Eastern Kentucky squad looks to extend its dominance over a West Georgia team seeking revenge when the ASUN women’s basketball rivals meet Thursday night at The Coliseum.

The Lady Colonels (17-4, 8-0 ASUN), who entered the AP Top 25 poll this week at No. 25, bring a nine-game winning streak into the matchup. They handed the Wolves (13-6, 5-3) a 69-53 loss in Richmond, Ky., just four weeks ago on Jan. 1. Eastern Kentucky has been formidable on both ends, averaging 78.2 points during their streak while holding opponents to 58.9.

West Georgia has won four of its last five, including a 77-64 victory over Queens (N.C.) last Saturday. The Wolves will need a stronger offensive performance than in the first meeting, where they shot just 32.8% from the field.

A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Eastern Kentucky’s Kenleigh Woods is coming off a stellar 23-point, six-rebound, seven-assist performance in an 88-54 rout of North Florida. The junior has averaged 14.6 points and 4.4 assists over the last eight games.

West Georgia will counter with Grace O’Gara, who posted 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Queens. The guard, who was held to five points in the loss at Eastern Kentucky, has been a consistent facilitator, averaging 5.4 assists in ASUN play.

Eastern Kentucky’s balanced attack is bolstered by Althea Kara Angeles and Liz Freihofer, who combined for 26 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists against North Florida. West Georgia relies on Sydne Tolbert, who scored 19 points last outing, and post presence Gal-la Font.

The Lady Colonels have not lost since Dec. 17 at Louisville. West Georgia aims to protect its home court, where it is 8-2 this season, and close the gap in the conference standings.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
