UNLV at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Interstat) — A critical Mountain West women’s basketball matchup with conference standings implications is set for Wednesday when the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels visit the New Mexico Lobos at The Pit.

UNLV (14-6) enters on a strong run, having won seven of its last eight games. The Rebels are coming off a 62-57 road victory at Nevada on Saturday. New Mexico (13-7) looks to build momentum after a 74-57 win at Air Force the same day, which snapped a three-game losing skid.

The teams met just over a month ago in Las Vegas, with UNLV securing an 89-71 victory on Dec. 20. The Rebels will aim for a regular-season sweep, while the Lobos seek redemption on their home court.

A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top performers. UNLV’s Shelbee Brown has been a consistent force, averaging 15.4 points and 6.6 rebounds over her last eight contests. She posted a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds in a win at Wyoming on Jan. 10.

New Mexico will counter with Joana Magalhães, who is capable of explosive scoring. She poured in a season-high 29 points in the win over Air Force last weekend. Her performance will be crucial for a Lobos offense that has struggled at times during conference play.

UNLV’s recent success has been marked by balanced contributions. In the win at Nevada, Meadow Roland recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Aaliyah Alexander added 10 points and five boards.

For New Mexico, Destinee Hooks provides a secondary scoring option, adding 13 points against Air Force. Alyssa Hargrove contributes defensively, blocking three shots in that same game.

The Rebels have found a rhythm in January, with their only loss in that span coming in overtime to San Diego State. New Mexico has shown resilience at home, boasting notable non-conference wins over Arizona and Houston earlier this season.

Wednesday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. With both teams jockeying for position in the tightly contested Mountain West, the outcome could prove pivotal for postseason seeding.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST at The Pit.
