Loyola Maryland at Bucknell
LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — The Loyola Maryland Greyhounds visit the Bucknell Bison in a Patriot League women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Sojka Pavilion, looking to complete a regular-season sweep.
The Greyhounds (8-10, 4-3 Patriot) edged the Bison (4-13, 1-6) 49-46 in Baltimore just two weeks ago on Jan. 10. Loyola Maryland has since gone 2-1 in conference play, including a narrow 56-55 win at Boston University, but is coming off a 67-61 overtime home loss to Lehigh on Wednesday.
Bucknell has lost five straight since that meeting with Loyola, most recently falling 64-44 at Army on Wednesday. The Bison have struggled offensively during the skid, failing to reach 50 points in four of those losses.
A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top scorers. Loyola Maryland is led by sophomore forward Lex Therien, who is averaging 18.4 points per game in Patriot League play. She scored 22 points with two assists in the first game against Bucknell this season and is coming off a 19-point performance against Lehigh.
Bucknell will counter with sophomore guard Tuana Coskun, who has been a bright spot during the losing streak. She scored 16 points in the loss at Army and poured in a season-high 23 points in a narrow 58-55 loss to Holy Cross on Dec. 31.
The Greyhounds have found recent success with a defense that has held opponents under 50 points in three of their last five games. Bucknell will need to improve its offensive efficiency after shooting just 30.2% from the field in the first meeting.
Saturday’s contest begins a critical two-game homestand for the Bison as they seek to climb the Patriot League standings. Loyola Maryland aims to stay above .500 in conference play before heading back on the road next week.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
