Chattanooga at UNC Greensboro
Preview: Chattanooga Lady Mocs at UNC Greensboro Spartans
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — A key Southern Conference women’s basketball matchup is set for Thursday when the UNC Greensboro Spartans host the Chattanooga Lady Mocs at Greensboro Coliseum.
The Spartans (12-7) look to rebound from a narrow road loss, while the Lady Mocs (11-5) aim to extend a three-game winning streak. Both teams are jockeying for position in the conference standings.
Chattanooga enters on a strong defensive run, having held its last three opponents under 45 points. In its most recent game, a 53-41 win at East Tennessee State on Saturday, forward Gianna Corbitt posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Corbitt has been a consistent force, averaging 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over her last four contests.
UNC Greensboro is coming off a tough 61-59 defeat at Wofford on Saturday. Guard Jaila Lee has been a bright spot, scoring 17 points in three of her last four games, including the loss to the Terriers. Lee averages 16.5 points per game in conference play, leading the Spartan offense.
The game features a contrast in momentum. Chattanooga has won five of its last six, with the only loss in that span a two-point defeat to UC Santa Barbara in late November. UNC Greensboro has shown potency at home, boasting a 7-1 record in Greensboro this season, but has dropped two straight conference road games.
The Spartans will need to solve Chattanooga’s defensive pressure, which has been stifling during its streak. The Lady Mocs, meanwhile, must contend with Lee’s scoring and a Spartan team that averages 74.3 points per game at home.
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this season. They will meet again in Chattanooga on Feb. 21.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Thursday, Jan. 22.
