Ohio at Kent State
KENT, Ohio (Interstat) — A surging Ohio team looks to extend its winning streak when it visits a struggling Kent State squad in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.
The Ohio Bobcats (10-4, 4-0 MAC) have won five consecutive games, most recently a 71-59 road victory at Buffalo on Saturday. Guard Bailey Tabeling has been instrumental in the run, averaging 17.8 points and 3.2 assists over her last five contests. She posted 14 points, four rebounds and seven assists against the Bulls.
The Kent State Golden Flashes (6-10, 1-3) snapped a four-game skid with a 78-65 win at Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Dionna Gray led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. She will be a key factor for the Flashes, who have lost three straight at home.
Ohio’s balanced attack features multiple scoring threats. Alongside Tabeling, Danni Scully and Bella Ranallo each added 14 and 11 points, respectively, in the win over Buffalo. The Bobcats have scored 85 or more points in three of their last five games.
Kent State will need a strong defensive effort at the Memorial Athletics Center to slow Ohio’s momentum. The Golden Flashes have allowed an average of 69.3 points per game during conference play.
The Bobcats have dominated recent conference play, while Kent State seeks consistency. Wednesday’s result could hinge on whether Kent State’s defense can contain Tabeling and Ohio’s efficient offense, or if the Golden Flashes can leverage their home court to disrupt the visitors’ rhythm.
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the rivals this season. They are set to meet again in Athens on Feb. 14.
