Northern Illinois at Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio (Interstat) — The Toledo Rockets look to climb above .500 and continue their Mid-American Conference momentum when they host the struggling Northern Illinois Huskies in a women’s basketball matchup Wednesday at Savage Hall.
Toledo (7-7, 2-2 MAC) evened its overall record with a 59-46 home victory over Western Michigan on Saturday. The Rockets have relied on a balanced attack, with guard Faith Fedd-Robinson providing consistent scoring. She averages 11.1 points per game and is coming off a 14-point performance against the Broncos. Forward Miriam Diala added 11 points in that win, while center Evalyse Cole anchors the defense with a team-leading 1.9 blocks per game.
Northern Illinois (3-12, 1-3) seeks to halt a two-game skid after a 65-48 loss to Bowling Green. The Huskies’ offense has sputtered, failing to reach 60 points in eight of their last nine games. Guard Nevaeh Wingate has been a bright spot, averaging 13.8 points over her last five contests. She scored 14 in the loss to the Falcons and had 17 points and seven rebounds in a Dec. 29 game at St. Thomas. Forward Teresa Mbemba, who had 15 points against Bowling Green, will need to provide secondary scoring.
The Rockets have dominated the recent series, winning the last six meetings. Toledo’s defense, allowing just 61.6 points per game, will challenge a Huskies squad averaging a MAC-worst 55.3 points. A key matchup will be on the interior, where Toledo’s size could overwhelm a Northern Illinois team that was outrebounded by 17 in its last outing.
Wednesday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting this season between the West Division rivals. Toledo aims to solidify its standing before a two-game road trip, while Northern Illinois searches for a rare conference road win to build confidence before hosting Western Michigan next week. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
