NJIT Highlanders Look to Extend Win Streak Against Maine Black Bears

VEAZIE, Maine (Interstat) — The surging NJIT Highlanders visit the Maine Black Bears in an America East women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Cross Insurance Center.

NJIT (11-5) enters on a two-game win streak following a 69-62 road victory at New Hampshire on Thursday. The Highlanders have won three of their last four, showcasing a balanced attack. In the win over New Hampshire, Alejandra Zuniga led all scorers with 19 points, while Allison Cannon added 13 points and Ava Locklear contributed 11.

Cannon, a key player to watch for NJIT, is averaging 9.8 points per game over her last four contests, including a 13-point performance in the most recent win.

The Maine Black Bears (7-9) aim to build momentum after a strong defensive showing in a 58-43 home win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Thursday. Adrianna Smith powered that victory with 19 points and six assists, while Asta Blauenfeldt added 13 points and four assists.

Blauenfeldt has been a consistent scoring threat for Maine, reaching double figures in five consecutive games. She averaged 13.6 points during that stretch, including a 15-point outing in a win at Quinnipiac on Dec. 14.

Despite their overall record, the Black Bears have been tough at home in conference play, while NJIT has proven capable on the road. This contest begins a critical stretch for both teams in the America East standings.

Following this game, NJIT will host Massachusetts-Lowell on Jan. 15. Maine will remain at home to face Vermont on the same date.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026.
