Loyola Maryland Edges Bucknell in Defensive Patriot League Battle
BALTIMORE (Interstat) — Lex Therien scored 22 points to lead Loyola Maryland to a 49-46 victory over Bucknell in a women’s basketball game Saturday at Reitz Arena.
The Greyhounds (6-9, 2-2 Patriot League) never trailed after the first quarter but could not pull away from the Bison (4-11, 0-4) in a contest defined by tough defense. Both teams struggled offensively, combining to shoot under 40% from the field.
Loyola Maryland held a 32-18 advantage in points in the paint, which proved decisive. Therien, a junior from Marlton, New Jersey, was the primary catalyst inside. Kaila Richards led Bucknell with eight points.
The Bison had a chance to tie in the final seconds, but a last-second three-point attempt missed.
