Bucknell at Loyola Maryland
BALTIMORE (Interstat) — Two Patriot League women’s basketball teams seeking to reverse recent slides will meet Saturday when Loyola Maryland hosts Bucknell at Reitz Arena.
The Greyhounds (5-9, 0-2 Patriot) and the visiting Bison (4-10, 0-2) both enter on three-game losing streaks within conference play. Loyola fell 71-66 to Army on Wednesday, while Bucknell suffered a 77-51 defeat to Navy the same night.
The matchup features two of the league’s top individual talents. Loyola Maryland will rely on forward Lex Therien, who is averaging 20.3 points and 7.0 rebounds over her last three games. She scored 18 points in the loss to Army.
Bucknell counters with guard Tuana Coskun, who has been a bright spot during the skid. She is averaging 15.0 points per game over her last four contests, including a 23-point performance in a narrow 58-55 loss to Holy Cross on Dec. 31.
Both teams have struggled offensively in league action. The Bison are averaging just 48.3 points in Patriot play, while the Greyhounds are allowing 67.0 points per game in their two conference losses.
History adds intrigue, as the teams will meet again in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, just two weeks after Saturday’s contest. Securing a win in Baltimore could provide crucial momentum in the early Patriot League standings.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST tip-off. Loyola Maryland will visit Colgate next Wednesday, while Bucknell will host Lafayette the same day.
