Radford at Virginia
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — The Radford Highlanders visit the Virginia Cavaliers in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena.
Both teams enter with 2-2 records. Radford is looking to build on a 59-50 home victory over Loyola Maryland on Tuesday. Angelina Nice led the Highlanders with 23 points in that win, while Cate Carlson added 16 points and four rebounds. Radford’s two losses this season have come on the road against Power Five opponents, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.
Virginia seeks to rebound from a 61-56 home loss to Maryland-Baltimore County on Thursday. Despite the defeat, Breona Hurd posted a strong performance for the Cavaliers with 22 points, three rebounds and four blocked shots. Prior to the upset, Virginia opened its season with dominant wins over Morgan State and Bucknell, scoring 80-plus points in both games.
This matchup is the first of a challenging three-game stretch for the Cavaliers, who host Longwood on Thursday before traveling to a tournament in Florida. For the Highlanders, the game against Virginia is their final road test before a five-game homestand beginning Wednesday against Furman.
Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon.
