Fort Wayne at Wright State
Preview: Fort Wayne Looks to Continue Surge at Struggling Wright State
FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — A surging Fort Wayne women’s basketball team will visit a struggling Wright State squad in a Horizon League matchup on Thursday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
The Mastodons (15-8 overall) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a dominant 95-66 victory over Detroit on Sunday. Fort Wayne has won five of its last six, with the only loss in that span a 12-point road defeat to first-place Green Bay.
Wright State (6-17) seeks to halt a six-game losing skid. The Raiders’ last win was an 82-71 home victory over Detroit on Jan. 2. They are coming off a 75-70 road loss at Milwaukee on Saturday.
Fort Wayne’s recent success has been fueled by forward Lili Krasovec. The standout is averaging 15.4 points over her last seven games, including a 24-point, three-block performance in a win over Robert Morris on Jan. 27. In the first meeting this season, Fort Wayne handled Wright State 68-52 at home on Dec. 7.
Wright State will rely on guard Claire Henson, who is coming off a 13-point, six-rebound effort at Milwaukee. She has scored in double figures in three of her last five outings.
The Mastodons have shown a potent offense during their streak, scoring 80 or more points in three straight wins. Against Detroit, Alana Nelson scored 25 points and Rylee Bess added 17. Wright State’s defense, allowing 73.3 points per game, will be challenged to slow that momentum.
Fort Wayne currently sits near the top of the Horizon League standings, while Wright State is near the bottom. The Mastodons aim to solidify their position, while the Raiders look to salvage a split of the season series and find a spark before the conference tournament.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Thursday.
