Eastern Kentucky at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A surging Eastern Kentucky looks to continue its dominant run through the ASUN Conference when the Lady Colonels visit the Lipscomb Bisons in a women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Allen Arena.

Eastern Kentucky (19-4, 9-1 ASUN) enters on an 11-game winning streak and sits atop the conference standings. Their last loss came on Dec. 20. The Lady Colonels are coming off a 74-59 road victory at Queens (N.C.) on Jan. 30, where guard Althea Kara Angeles scored 17 points.

Angeles has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 12.9 points and 4.4 assists during the winning streak. In the first meeting against Lipscomb on Jan. 15, a 69-60 Eastern Kentucky home win, Angeles posted 11 points and seven assists.

Lipscomb (8-13, 5-5) seeks to build momentum after a 73-65 home win over North Florida on Jan. 31. The Bisons are led by forward Molly Heard, who is coming off a 22-point, 9-rebound performance in that victory. Heard scored 17 points in the earlier loss to Eastern Kentucky.

The Bisons have shown resilience at home in conference play, but face a steep challenge against a Lady Colonels squad that has won by an average margin of 22.6 points during their current streak. Eastern Kentucky’s defense has been particularly stifling, holding opponents to 55.8 points per game over the last 11 contests.

Lipscomb will need a strong defensive effort to contain Eastern Kentucky’s balanced attack and must find consistent scoring beyond Heard to pull an upset. The Lady Colonels aim to complete the regular-season sweep and maintain their hold on first place in the ASUN.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
