Detroit at Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Interstat) — A struggling Detroit team seeks to halt a lengthy skid against a surging Fort Wayne squad in a Horizon League women’s basketball matchup Sunday at Gates Sports Center.
The Detroit Titans (4-17) enter on an eight-game losing streak, most recently a 53-69 home loss to Youngstown State on Thursday. The Fort Wayne Mastodons (14-8) have won three straight, including a 60-46 defensive victory over Robert Morris on Tuesday.
The contrast in momentum is stark. Fort Wayne sits comfortably in the upper tier of the conference, while Detroit anchors the bottom, having not won since Dec. 21.
A key matchup will feature Detroit guard Kailee Davis against Fort Wayne’s standout forward Lili Krasovec. Davis is coming off a season-high 15 points in 31 minutes against Youngstown State, offering a potential bright spot for the Titans’ offense. Krasovec, however, presents a formidable challenge. She dominated last time out with 24 points and three blocks against Robert Morris and has been a consistent force, averaging 14.3 points over her last three games.
Detroit’s recent woes are underscored by their offensive struggles, failing to reach 70 points in any game during their current losing streak. Fort Wayne’s defense, which held its last opponent to 46 points, will look to extend that trend.
For the Mastodons, balance complements Krasovec’s interior presence. Lauren Lee added 12 points in the last win, and the team showed resilience in a 97-91 overtime victory at Northern Kentucky on Jan. 24.
The Titans will need more production beyond Davis. Makayla Jackson (8 points vs. Youngstown State) and Jasmine Edwards must contribute to offset a Fort Wayne team that is 9-2 at home this season.
This game is the first of a regular-season series, with a rematch scheduled in Detroit on Feb. 14.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. EST Sunday at Gates Sports Center.
