Fort Wayne Dominates Detroit in Horizon League Women’s Basketball Matchup
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Fort Wayne Mastodons, led by a dominant performance from forward Lili Krasovec, overwhelmed the Detroit Titans 95-66 in a Horizon League women’s basketball game Sunday at Gates Sports Center.
The Mastodons, improving to 15-8 overall, seized control with a blistering first quarter and never looked back, capitalizing on a staggering 31 points off Detroit turnovers to secure the lopsided victory. The Titans fell to 4-18 with the loss, their seventh in a row.
The most critical phase of the game unfolded immediately after the opening tip. Fort Wayne established its defensive intensity and offensive rhythm from the outset, embarking on a 13-2 run over the first four and a half minutes. The sequence was fueled by active hands and poor ball security from Detroit, setting a tone the visitors could never overcome.
Krasovec, a 6-foot-3 junior from Budapest, Hungary, was the catalyst. She won the opening tip, scored Fort Wayne’s first two baskets on assists from Jordan Reid and Rylee Bess, and blocked a shot by Detroit’s Nisea Burrell—all within the game’s first three minutes. Her early energy propelled the Mastodons to a 26-15 lead after one quarter, a margin built by converting five early Detroit turnovers into easy scoring opportunities.
Fort Wayne extended its lead to 45-32 by halftime and then delivered the decisive blow in the third quarter. A 13-5 run to open the second half, capped by consecutive 3-pointers from Bess and another from Nika Lokica, pushed the advantage to 61-37. The Mastodons outscored Detroit 27-11 in the period, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Krasovec finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in just 20 minutes of action. She was complemented by a game-high 25 points from Alana Nelson, a forward from Springport, Michigan, who connected on four 3-pointers. Bess, a guard from Pickerington, Ohio, added 17 points, including three shots from beyond the arc.
Detroit, which struggled with ball handling throughout, was led by guard Kailee Davis with 12 points. Anna Lassan, a guard from South Lyon, Michigan, contributed 10 points off the bench, and Myonna Hooper added nine points and three assists.
The Mastodons’ defensive pressure was the defining statistic, forcing Detroit into numerous traveling violations and errant passes that led directly to transition baskets. Fort Wayne’s 31 points off turnovers dwarfed Detroit’s 11, illustrating the chasm between the teams in execution and tempo.
An announced crowd of 652 at Gates Sports Center watched the Mastodons shoot efficiently from the field while holding the Titans to a frigid offensive night. The result aligned with the pregame analytics, as Interstat’s ELO system had projected Fort Wayne with a 97.2 percent probability to win.
Fort Wayne next travels to face Wright State on Thursday. Detroit will look to snap its skid when it visits Oakland on Saturday. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch in Detroit on Feb. 14.
