Marquette at Georgetown

Preview: Marquette Golden Eagles at Georgetown Hoyas

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A pivotal Big East women’s basketball rematch is set for Sunday at Capital One Arena as the Georgetown Hoyas host the Marquette Golden Eagles.

The contest, scheduled for Feb. 1, 2026, carries significant weight for both teams’ conference positioning. Georgetown (12-9 overall) earned a 63-54 road victory in the first meeting on Jan. 17, a result both teams will have fresh in mind.

Marquette (14-7) enters having won three of its last four, including a narrow 74-73 home win over DePaul on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles are led by guard Jaidynn Mason, who is coming off a 16-point, 7-assist performance in that victory. Over her last eight games, Mason is averaging 13.0 points and 5.1 assists, including a 20-point, 7-assist outing in a win over Villanova earlier this month.

The Hoyas look to snap a two-game skid after falling 58-52 to Seton Hall at home on Thursday. Georgetown’s fortunes often follow the play of guard Destiny Agubata. In the Jan. 17 win over Marquette, Agubata logged 35 minutes, scoring 13 points and dishing 5 assists. She is averaging 12.2 points over her last eight contests.

Georgetown’s defense, which held Marquette to 54 points in the prior matchup, will be tested by a Golden Eagles squad that has shown resilience in close games, winning its last three outings by a combined six points.

The Hoyas will aim to protect their home floor and complete a regular-season sweep, while Marquette seeks to avenge its earlier loss and improve its standing in a tightly packed Big East conference race.

Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Georgetown’s next game is at Creighton on Wednesday. Marquette returns home to host Providence on Wednesday.
