Creighton at Seton Hall
Preview: Creighton Bluejays at Seton Hall Pirates
NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) — The Seton Hall Pirates, riding a strong season, will host the struggling Creighton Bluejays in a Big East women’s basketball matchup Sunday at Prudential Center.
Seton Hall (15-6 overall) enters with momentum after a 58-52 road victory over Georgetown on Thursday. Savannah Catalon led the way with 17 points and five rebounds, continuing her consistent play. The Pirates have won five of their last six games, with the lone loss in that stretch coming against Connecticut.
Conversely, Creighton (9-12) snapped a four-game skid with an emphatic 81-51 home win over St. John’s on Wednesday. Guard Ava Zediker scored 18 points in that victory and has been a bright spot, averaging 17.2 points over her last five contests.
The Pirates won the first meeting this season, 88-79, at Creighton on Dec. 22. Catalon scored 24 points in that game for Seton Hall, while Zediker had 17 for the Bluejays.
For Seton Hall, a key to success has been defense, holding opponents under 65 points in four of their last five wins. They will aim to contain a Creighton offense that has been volatile, scoring 82 points in a win over Xavier but being held under 65 in three of their recent losses.
Creighton will need another high-scoring performance from Zediker and support from posts like Grace Boffeli, who had 12 points and three blocks against St. John’s, to challenge a Seton Hall team that is 8-2 at home this season.
The game tips off at 1 p.m. EST Sunday. Seton Hall looks to solidify its standing in the conference, while Creighton seeks a crucial road win to build on its latest performance and climb back toward .500.
