Towson Looks to Continue Momentum Against Elon in Colonial Clash
ELON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Towson Tigers aim to build on a last-second victory when they visit the Elon Phoenix in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball matchup Sunday at Schar Center.
Towson (12-8, 5-4 CAA) edged North Carolina A&T 59-57 on Friday behind 19 points from guard India Johnston. The Tigers have alternated wins and losses over their last six games.
Elon (9-11, 4-5) seeks to rebound after a 77-69 home loss to College of Charleston on Friday. The Phoenix had won three of their previous four, largely fueled by improved offensive output.
The game features two of the conference’s top scorers. Towson’s Johnston, averaging 15.4 points per game in conference play, has been a consistent force, scoring in double figures in seven of her last eight outings, including a 24-point performance at Stony Brook on Jan. 18.
She will match up with Elon’s dynamic guard Laila Anderson, who is coming off a 22-point, 4-assist effort in a win at Hampton on Jan. 26. Anderson has averaged 18.8 points over her last four contests, providing a significant spark for the Phoenix offense.
Towson’s recent success has hinged on defense, holding opponents under 60 points in three of their last five wins. Elon has shown offensive volatility, scoring 79 points twice in January but also being held to 52 in a loss to Campbell.
The Tigers won both meetings last season. In their visit to Schar Center on Jan. 28, 2025, Towson secured a 66-56 victory.
Following this contest, Towson returns home to host William & Mary on Feb. 6. Elon hits the road for a game at North Carolina A&T on the same date.
