Jacksonville at Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Jacksonville Dolphins will look to complete a regular-season sweep when they visit the Lipscomb Bisons in an ASUN Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Allen Arena.
Jacksonville (11-7, 3-2 ASUN) enters with momentum after a decisive 73-49 road win at Bellarmine on Saturday. The Dolphins previously defeated Lipscomb 72-59 at home on Jan. 3. In that game, Jacksonville’s defense held Lipscomb to 32.8% shooting from the field.
A key player for the Dolphins is Aniah Smith, who is coming off a strong performance of 15 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes against Bellarmine. Her production has been variable, but she provides a scoring and rebounding spark off the bench.
Lipscomb (7-12, 3-3) aims to defend its home court and avenge the earlier loss. The Bisons are buoyed by a significant 53-44 road victory over Florida Gulf Coast last Saturday, a win that snapped a two-game skid. Senior guard Molly Heard powered that upset with a game-high 23 points and six rebounds. Heard has been a consistent offensive force, scoring in double figures in seven of her last eight games, including a 22-point effort in a win at North Florida on Jan. 1.
The matchup pits Jacksonville’s more potent offense, which averages over 70 points per game, against a Lipscomb team that relies on defense, holding opponents to an average of 60.3 points. The Bisons will need another standout game from Heard and contain Jacksonville’s balanced attack, which saw three players score 15 points apiece in the win over Bellarmine.
Following this contest, Jacksonville will travel to face Austin Peay on Saturday. Lipscomb will remain at home to host North Florida that same day.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
