Lewis Scores 33 as Royals Rout Knights in ASUN Women’s Basketball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Queens Royals unleashed a record-setting offensive barrage from beyond the arc Thursday night, dismantling the Bellarmine Knights 100-48 in a lopsided ASUN Conference women’s basketball game at Levine Center.

From the opening tip, the Royals established a dominant and relentless pace that the Knights could never counter. Queens opened the game on a 29-12 first-quarter run and never looked back, leading 58-25 at halftime and cruising to a 52-point victory, their largest of the season.

The most decisive factor in the game was Queens’ historic three-point shooting performance. The Royals connected on 19 shots from three-point range, a program record for a Division I game, on 43 attempts. This perimeter onslaught, accounting for 57 of their points, completely overwhelmed a Bellarmine defense that struggled to close out on shooters. In stark contrast, the Knights managed only two three-pointers on nine tries.

Alyssa Lewis, a 5-foot-7 guard from Harrisburg, North Carolina, was the catalyst for the record night. Coming off a quiet stretch in recent games, Lewis erupted for a game-high 33 points in just 24 minutes off the bench, spearheading the Royals’ offensive explosion. She shot 10 of 18 from the field, including a remarkable 8 of 15 from three-point range, and added five rebounds.

Lewis was far from alone. The Royals’ offensive efficiency was a team-wide effort, with five other players scoring in double figures. Magda Freire of Lisbon, Portugal, scored 13 points, while fellow Portuguese native Ana Barreto added 14 points and four rebounds. Brenae Jones-Grant contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, and Jermany Mapp finished with 12 points. Dayuna Colvin orchestrated the offense with a near double-double, dishing out nine assists to go with 10 points.

Bellarmine, which fell to 2-20 overall and 0-7 in ASUN play, was plagued by turnovers and inefficient offense throughout the contest. The Knights committed 20 turnovers, which Queens converted into 28 points. Bellarmine’s offensive rating of 67.9 on 71 possessions underscored their struggles, as they shot just 32.7% from the field.

Andrea Chiquemba led the Knights with 18 points and seven rebounds in 34 minutes. Kayce Hyman, a 5-10 guard from Irmo, South Carolina, added 15 points but also accounted for seven of Bellarmine’s turnovers. The Knights’ four total assists highlighted their difficulty in generating cohesive offense against Queens’ active defense, which recorded 11 steals and five blocks.

The Royals set the tone immediately. After a slow start that saw the score tied at 2-2, Queens embarked on a 27-10 run to close the first quarter, fueled by three early three-pointers from Lewis. The second quarter was more of the same, with the Royals hitting six more threes to extend their lead to 33 points by the break. The Knights showed a brief spark after halftime, but any hope of a rally was extinguished by another series of deep Queens baskets, sealing the comprehensive victory.

With the win, Queens improved to 8-12 overall and 3-4 in the conference, finding a much-needed offensive rhythm after recent struggles. The 100 points marked a season high. Bellarmine’s losing streak extended to eight games, and they have now lost 15 of their last 16 contests.

The game was a reversal of the teams’ first meeting this season on Jan. 1, which Queens won 58-46. The Royals will look to build on this performance when they host Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. Bellarmine continues its road trip at West Georgia on Saturday.
