Michigan at Indiana
Preview: Michigan Visits Indiana in Big Ten Showdown
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Interstat) — A surging Michigan women’s basketball team, ranked eighth nationally, aims to continue its dominant run when it visits an Indiana squad seeking to halt a lengthy skid in a Big Ten Conference matchup Thursday night at Assembly Hall.
The Wolverines (17-3, 7-1 Big Ten) have won seven of their last eight games, including a 73-67 victory over Southern California on Sunday. They are powered by star guard Olivia Olson, who is averaging 18.5 points over her last eight contests. In the win over USC, Olson logged 37 minutes, scoring 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Support comes from guards Mila Holloway, who had 13 points and eight assists Sunday, and Brooke Q Daniels.
Conversely, the Hoosiers (11-9, 1-6) have lost six consecutive games, all in conference play. Their last win came on Dec. 21 against Western Carolina. Despite the team’s struggles, guard Shay Ciezki has been a prolific scorer, averaging 24.1 points during the losing streak. She erupted for a career-high 37 points in Indiana’s most recent outing, an 80-69 loss at Purdue on Sunday.
The matchup pits Michigan’s balanced and efficient attack against an Indiana team reliant on Ciezki’s offensive outbursts. The Wolverines have scored 85 or more points in four of their last seven games, showcasing deep offensive options. Indiana has allowed 78 or more points in four of its six conference losses, a vulnerability Michigan is well-equipped to exploit.
Historically, Assembly Hall has been a tough venue for visitors, but Michigan enters with significant momentum and a clear edge in conference standing. For Indiana, stopping its slide will require containing Olson and finding consistent secondary scoring behind Ciezki.
Thursday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. Following this game, Michigan travels to face Michigan State on Sunday, while Indiana hosts Northwestern.
