Wolverines Dominate Hoosiers in Big Ten Road Victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Interstat) — The Michigan women’s basketball team delivered a commanding wire-to-wire performance Thursday night, dismantling Indiana 95-67 in a Big Ten Conference matchup at a subdued Assembly Hall.

From the opening tip, the Wolverines imposed their will. Olivia Olson, the sophomore star from New Hope, Minnesota, won the jump ball and scored the game’s first basket just 15 seconds in, setting an immediate tone. Michigan’s offensive execution was crisp and its defensive pressure disruptive, forcing the Hoosiers into a series of early turnovers and rushed shots. The visitors built a 24-15 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, methodically expanding their advantage each period.

The most critical phase of the game came in the second quarter, when Michigan transformed a competitive contest into a decisive rout. Leading 31-20 midway through the period, the Wolverines unleashed a devastating 18-2 run over a span of just over four minutes. The surge was fueled by stifling defense that generated multiple Indiana turnovers, which Michigan converted into easy transition opportunities. Olivia Olson and Mila Holloway were instrumental during the burst, scoring or assisting on nearly every basket. By the time Kendall Dudley converted a layup off a steal with 1:09 left in the half, Michigan’s lead had ballooned to 49-22. The Wolverines entered halftime with a 49-31 advantage, having effectively sealed the outcome before the break.

Michigan maintained its intensity in the second half, preventing any semblance of a Hoosier rally. The lead never dipped below 18 points in the third quarter and grew to as many as 32 in the fourth, allowing both teams to empty their benches in the final minutes.

Olson led all scorers with 27 points, adding two assists and a block in just 29 minutes of work. She efficiently picked apart the Indiana defense, showcasing her versatile scoring arsenal with jump shots, drives, and free throws. Holloway, a guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, provided excellent support with 17 points and five assists. Syla Swords of Sudbury, Canada, chipped in 10 points and four assists.

For Indiana, which struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm, Maya Makalusky of Fishers, Indiana, and Lenée Beaumont of Lisle, Illinois, each scored 17 points. Beaumont also contributed four assists. Shay Ciezki of Buffalo, New York, added 13 points but was harassed into six turnovers by the Michigan backcourt.

The Wolverines dominated statistically, shooting a higher percentage from the field, from three-point range, and from the free-throw line than the Hoosiers. Michigan’s defensive effort was paramount, forcing 22 Indiana turnovers while committing only 11 of their own, leading to a significant advantage in points off turnovers.

With the victory, Michigan improved to 18-3 overall and continued its strong push in the Big Ten. The Wolverines have now won three consecutive games since a narrow loss to Vanderbilt on Jan. 19. Indiana fell to 11-10, suffering its fourth loss in the last five outings.

A crowd of 7,619 at Assembly Hall watched as the Wolverines handed the Hoosiers one of their more lopsided home defeats in recent memory. Michigan next travels to face rival Michigan State on Sunday. Indiana will host Northwestern on the same day, looking to halt its recent slide.

The game’s final score easily surpassed the pregame point spread, which had Michigan favored by 14.5 points. The combined total of 162 points also went over the projected over/under line of 142.5.
