Holy Cross at American

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Holy Cross women’s basketball team looks to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify its position in the Patriot League standings when it visits American University on Saturday.

The Crusaders (10-8, 4-3 Patriot) defeated the Eagles (5-13, 3-4) decisively just two weeks ago, 65-48, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Holy Cross has dropped two of three since that victory, including a 72-58 home loss to Navy on Wednesday. American, meanwhile, is coming off a gritty 44-41 road win at Colgate on Wednesday, snapping a two-game skid.

A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top performers. Holy Cross guard Hannah Griffin, who scored 12 points in 30 minutes against Navy, will be a focal point for the Crusaders’ offense. For American, forward Charlotte Tuhy is coming off a historic performance. In the win over Colgate, she recorded 22 points and a remarkable 17 rebounds while blocking five shots. Containing Tuhy, who had 11 points and 15 rebounds in the first meeting, will be a primary challenge for Holy Cross.

The game at Bender Arena presents a contrast in trajectories. Holy Cross seeks consistency to climb above .500 in conference play, while American aims to build momentum from its recent defensive victory and level its league record. The Eagles will need to find more offensive production after being held under 50 points in both of their last two Patriot League losses.

Saturday’s contest is the first of two consecutive road games for Holy Cross. American continues a stretch of four home games in its next five contests. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST.
