Ohio Women Dominate Bowling Green in MAC Road Victory

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Interstat) — Bella Ranallo scored 26 points and Ohio rode a dominant first half to an 82-57 victory over Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball game Wednesday night at Stroh Center.

The Bobcats, who led by as many as 27 points, improved to 12-5 overall. The Falcons fell to 10-8.

The most important stretch of the game came in the second quarter, where Ohio’s defense completely stifled Bowling Green. After a competitive first quarter that ended with Ohio leading 23-16, the Bobcats held the Falcons to just seven points in the second period. Ohio forced nine Bowling Green turnovers in the quarter and limited the hosts to 2-of-13 shooting from the field. During the same 10-minute span, the Bobcats’ offense, led by Ranallo and Bailey Tabeling, steadily built a commanding 46-23 halftime advantage.

Bowling Green never recovered from that decisive quarter. The Falcons shot just 33.3% from the field for the game and 27% from three-point range. Ohio, by contrast, was efficient, shooting 58% overall and a blistering 59.1% from beyond the arc.

Ranallo, a 5-foot-6 guard from Lake Forest, Illinois, was the catalyst, hitting four three-pointers and adding a steal in 32 minutes. Her performance continued a strong stretch of play, marking her fourth consecutive game scoring in double figures.

Tabeling, a 5-10 guard from Seymour, Indiana, added 20 points and five assists for Ohio. Monica Williams contributed eight points and four assists off the bench.

For Bowling Green, no player reached double figures until the fourth quarter. Lauren Gerken and Ky’Aira Miller each finished with 10 points. Jasmine Fearne added nine points. The Falcons struggled with ball security, committing 22 turnovers, which Ohio converted into 25 points.

Despite being out-rebounded 34-22 and committing 24 turnovers of their own, the Bobcats’ superior shooting and defensive intensity in the pivotal second quarter proved insurmountable. Ohio’s offensive rating of 107.0 on 77 possessions far outpaced Bowling Green’s rating of 76.4 on 75 possessions.

The result defied the pregame projections from Interstat’s ELO system, which had given Bowling Green an 84.9% probability to win at home.

Ohio, which has won three of its last four conference games, will host Toledo on Saturday. Bowling Green, which has lost two straight, looks to regroup when it hosts Akron next Wednesday.
