American at Holy Cross

Preview: American Eagles at Holy Cross Crusaders

WORCESTER, Mass. (Interstat) — The Holy Cross Crusaders look to rebound from a narrow conference loss when they host the American Eagles in a Patriot League women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Hart Recreation Center.

Holy Cross (8-6) enters the contest after a 60-57 home loss to Lehigh on Wednesday. The Crusaders had won three straight prior to that defeat. American (4-10) arrives with momentum from a 59-56 overtime victory against Colgate, also on Wednesday, snapping a two-game skid.

The game features a contrast in season trajectories. Holy Cross has navigated non-conference play to a winning record, while American has struggled for consistency. The Eagles’ win over Colgate, however, demonstrated their capability, especially on defense.

A key matchup will be at guard, where American’s Charlotte Tuhy faces Holy Cross’s Kendall Eddy. Tuhy is coming off a season-high 41 minutes in the overtime win, scoring 17 points. Over her last five games, she has averaged 15.4 points, including a 20-point, 8-rebound performance against UMBC on Dec. 21.

Eddy has been a dynamic scorer for the Crusaders. She poured in 21 points in a win at Navy on Jan. 3 and followed with 17 points and 4 assists in the loss to Lehigh. Her playmaking will be central to Holy Cross’s offensive flow.

For American, sustaining the effort that produced the overtime win is critical. Madisyn Moore-Nicholson added 16 points against Colgate, providing vital secondary scoring alongside Tuhy. The Eagles will need to replicate that balanced attack and their defensive intensity, which held Colgate to 33.9% shooting.

Holy Cross will rely on its home-court advantage, where it is 5-2 this season. Beyond Eddy, Simone Foreman and Meg Cahalan, who each scored 12 points against Lehigh, offer additional scoring threats. The Crusaders’ defense, which allows just 55.6 points per game, will test an American offense averaging only 56.4.

This contest opens a crucial stretch of Patriot League play for both teams. Holy Cross seeks to solidify its position near the top of the conference standings, while American aims to build on its most recent result and climb from the lower tier.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in Worcester.
